“I create custom wedding gowns from start to finish. A bride will come to me with ideas of her dream dress and it starts with several hand drawn sketches of variations of that design.

A variety of silks, laces and jewelry elements are chosen to go into this custom dress and the creative process begins. It’s a one on one, hands on experience. Several fittings are necessary.

I also have my bridal line of finished one of a kind wedding gowns. A bride will come in and try on several different dresses, each with a unique design. She may then pick the one she falls in love with and I will recreate that particular design in her size.

However, some brides that contact me already have an existing wedding dress. These brides have already bought their gowns from another bridal shop or they may have acquired a family heirloom. Maybe a dress passed down from a previous generation and is still good quality.

This dress may have a simple or ordinary design and not fully bring out the personality of the bride. Or the bride is wanting a second look.

Something is missing and more is desired.

Daci’s Finishing Touches was created to solve these issues.

Finishing Touches takes any wedding dress and transforms it with add-on pieces.

“I’ve created these component pieces - off the shoulder sleeves, capes, overdresses and overskirts to enhance the design of any ordinary wedding dress. Brides are able to pick and choose different pieces and customize their dress.”

Finishing Touches pieces simply attach or wear over the existing wedding dress.

It started with Leah

Leah wanted a whimsical dress with color, movement and flow. She was from San Francisco, California. After searching bridal shops all through the city she couldn’t find her dream wedding dress. It seemed she had lost hope. This is when Leah contacted me and flew to Boise.  We went to work on the design of her new wedding dress.

Leah envisioned a two-piece wedding gown. The main piece would be a sexy silk slip dress that would be worn again after the wedding. The second piece, an overdress would be designed for movement and with color. Leah was very particular about the fine silks and textures of her wedding gown being a designer herself.

While creating her dress we envisioned a new bridal line that is nowhere to be found in mainstream bridal shops. A dress that follows lines of effortless, relaxed fashion. An heirloom piece that can also be worn again and again.

We envisioned overdresses with off the shoulder flowing sleeves, capes, with or without lace. The overdress would embrace each bride’s personality. Either romantic or boho, whimsical or fashion forward.

Creating Leah’s wedding gown was so inspiring and challenging in so many ways. I loved the process and the design. After the wedding, we decided to make the “Leah” wedding gown an addition to designs. I didn’t realize that later this would be the beginning of a new and timeless bridal line.

Daci Finishing Touches was born

Heather contacted me from Oceanside, California a few weeks before her daughter Bryce’s wedding. Heather saw photos of the Leah silk chiffon wedding dress on Instagram and knew it would be the perfect dress for her daughter’s boho wedding.

Bryce had already purchased a wedding gown in California yet her mom felt the “Leah” would fully embrace Bryce’s personality. I remember her telling me that Bryce’s present wedding dress was missing some finishing touches, that it wasn’t complete.

I set up a Face Time with Heather and saw Bryce’s wedding dress. I knew that the “Leah” silk chiffon overdress with cape would work perfect over Bryce’s existing dress. Remember the “Leah” consists of two separate pieces, the silk slip dress and the silk chiffon overdress. Both can be purchased together or individual.

I sent the overdress to Heather in Oceanside for the “in home” fitting. Heather picked the perfect day to surprise Bryce with the overdress and they wanted me to participate in this event over Facetime. It was a special moment.

When I finally got to meet Bryce and understood why her mom wanted something unique for her daughter. I was obvious that Bryce is genuine and full of life. She loves unconditionally and sees beauty in all things.

After the Facetime session, I reflected on Heather’s comment about Bryce’s wedding gown missing some finishing touches. Of course, this problem was solved by adding the overdress and cape. I also knew I could take this a step further. I could offer more design options broken down into smaller components.

I would offer my brides many design options to refine their existing wedding gown. The goal is to make the design process simple. The outcome would be personalized and unique. This is how Daci Finishing Touches came to life.

 Finishing touches: a natural process

All brides would love wearing a wedding gown that fully embraces who they are. Yet they sometimes end up choosing a classical or traditional style dress. Or the dress might be a family heirloom passed down from a generation.

Finishing Touches collection takes any wedding design further giving the opportunity of a more personalized style. Taking the common wedding gown to the next level by adding a touch of color or detail, flow and movement.

Some of our bridal pieces with Finishing Touches include:

• Sleeves that are off the shoulder as seen on the Mila, Leah, Sandra and Rose wedding dresses.

• Capes using different textures and colors such as the Leah dress and Esther the celestial inspired dress.

• Overdresses as seen in our collection such as in the Summer, Luna, Leah and Skye wedding dresses.

• Overskirts with design options of chiffon flowy panels.

Much of my inspiration for Finishing Touches comes from designing hundreds of gowns over the last twenty years.

A few things to be known about the add-ons are:

∗ We use hand dyed, plant based colored silks

∗ The most lightweight silk chiffon is used for flow and movement.

∗ For details, unique bridal laces carefully chosen from around the world.

∗ Ethnic jewelry is selected for off the shoulder detail on the sleeves.

∗ Creative, “no-lace” details such as chiffon braids for sleeves and belts that will be paired with any lace dresses.

∗ All of those are created locally.

“It has always been my desire to offer all brides a one on one experience. Working with brides on custom gowns from start to finish obviously limits the number of brides I am able to work with. Finishing Touches collection allows me to give more brides that personalized attention.”

With Daci Finishing Touches each ordinary wedding dress will be transformed and each piece will be created just like all other Daci gowns:

One at a time. one of a kind.

finishing touches look book

Together with Jessika Christine Photography we created a LookBook to show you how finishing touches will transform any dress wedding.

We picked and styled three completely different wedding dress designs and silhouettes:

  • Dress One: a minimalist fit and flare slip dress - one of our crepe slip dresses.

  • Dress Two: a form fitted lace dress - our “Aimie” wedding dress

  • Dress Three: an A line floral lace and tulle dress - our “Harper” wedding dress.

Each of those dresses we styled with our four primary finishing touches pieces:

  • the off the shoulder chiffon flowy sleeves for a romantic look

  • the silk bell sleeves with fishtail braid detail for the bohemian look

  • the silk cape for a touch of color and flow

  • the silk chiffon overskirt to add more volume and color
